"Border Environment Cooperation Comission "- 03/05/2014

Maria Elena Giner is the General Manager of the Border Environment Cooperation
Commission (BECC) since October 2010, Ms. Giner is a Civil Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in the private and public sectors focusing on development and implementation of environmental infrastructure projects. Maria Elena came to present and motivate students to preserve, protect, and enhance US-MX border region.

"Leadership in Engineering" -02/18/2014

Our special keynote speaker Roger Gonzalez, Ph. D.,P.E. Director from Leadership Engineering Program and Professor of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering presented an interesting topic to around 50 engineering students. His presentation "Leadership in Engineering" gives the students new tools and ideas to improve their skills and become an outstanding leader.


 

2012 NCEES Award
“Multidisciplinary Smart Design of Fire Station 513”

In 2012, the Department of Civil Engineering received the NCEES Engineering Award for Connecting Professional Practice and Education for the project "Multidisciplinary Smart Design of Fire Station 513" which was conducted for the City of El Paso. Dr. Carlos M. Chang and Dr. Ivonne Santiago were the Lead Advisors.

2011 NCEES Award
“Development of a Sustainable
Infrastructure Management System for a City "

In 2012, the Department of Civil Engineering received the NCEES Engineering Award for Connecting Professional Practice and Education for the project "Multidisciplinary Smart Design of Fire Station 513" which was conducted for the City of El Paso. Dr. Carlos M. Chang and Dr. Ivonne Santiago were the Lead Advisors.

Engineering in Practice welcomes Dr. Rafael Aldrete, Director of the Texas Transportation Institute Center for International Intelligent Transportation Research in El Paso. Dr. Aldrete has over fifteen years of experience transportation infrastructure research and management consulting in the US and over 20 countries worldwide. His specialty areas include infrastructure project development and management, innovative finance, and public-private partnerships (PPP) in all transportation modes.

"Career Path Example in Materials Engineering" -04/4/2011

We welcome our week's keynote speaker, Paul Krugler. He is currently a Research Engineer in the Materials and Pavements Division of the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI). The majority of Mr. Krugler's materials engineering has involved asphalt pavement materials quality control, construction, and maintenance.

"Sustainability in Environmental & Water Resources Engineering" -03/21/2011

Mr. Trejo is a Project Environmental Engineer for Malcolm Pirnie, the Water Division of Arcadis-US, Inc., with experience in the design of water and wastewater facilities including sludge dewatering processes, odor control systems, water and waste water pumping systems, chemical injection systems, flocculation and sedimentation systems and design of large diameter water distribution and wastewater collection pipelines.

"El Paso Regional Port Of Entry Operations Plan" -02/28/2011

Our special keynote speaker Said Larbi-Cherif, P.E. Director from International Bridges Department of the City of El Paso, with his presentation "El Paso Regional Port of Entry Operations Plan". Mr. Larbi-Cherif manages the El Paso del Norte, Stanton, and Zaragoza passenger vehicle and the Zaragoza Commercial Vehicle International Bridges, being responsible for the overall management of Infrastructure and Operations at the City owned Bridges.

Visit to City Hall -11/29/2010

Engineering in Practice would like to thank all of our guest speakers this semester for their time and great presentations. Below are a few pictures from our final presentation by Mel Herrera, P.E. and Julian Bendana, Ph.D., P.E.as well as Mel Herrera's presentation which can be downloaded. We'd also like to thank the City of El Paso for having Engineering in Practice for a visit to City Hall. Pictures from the visit can be viewed below also.  



"ECM International Inc., Our Building Experiences in Mexico" & " Design and Construction of Rigid Pavements" -11/4/2010

Tuesday November 16, 2010 at 2:30 in BUSN 318 in the Business Building we will have our third and last Keynote Speakers for the semester! Mel Herrera, P.E., Vice President of Operations - ECM International, will give the presentation "ECM International Inc., Our Building Experiences in Mexico." and Julian Bendana, Ph.D., P.E. - New York Department of Transportation, will give a presentation: "Design and Construction of Rigid Pavements: Project I-90 New York".


Scheduling Visits -11-2-2010

Engineering in Practice will be gathering registered students availability for trips to the City of El Paso's Facilities. The trips will be between Monday - Thursdays for an hour to an hour and a half. The groups and trips will vary depending on your focus group. More information to be announced. "Infrastructure Development in El Paso" -10-20-2010

On Wednesday October, 27th we will have another presentation! Special Guest Keynote Speakers include Javier Reyes, P.E. (City of El Paso Engineering Division Manager - Design Division) and Johanes S. Makahaube, P.E. (City of El Paso Engineering Division Manager - Engineering & Construction Management Department) with their presentation "Infrastructure Development in El Paso". The presentation will be in the Business Building - BUSN 321 on Wednesday October 27th at 2:30 pm.
